Organization

The Matas chain was founded in 1949 as a voluntary chain. For further details, see the Matas section entitled “History”.

There are 296 Matas stores located throughout Denmark as well as two in Sweden. Matas employs approximately 2,500 staff in its stores as well as and headquarter in Allerød.

In 2007, the majority of Matas´ stores were converted to a capital chain where CVC Capital Partners are the principal shareholders and where the one time store owners in the company Materialisternes Invest ApS, hold a significant minority position.

Today the 256 Danish Matas stores, as well as the two stores in Sweden, are part of the capital chain owned by MHolding A/S.

There are also an additional 40 privately-owned Matas stores, that work in close collaboration with Matas A/S with regards to the distribution of the Striped product range as well as joint campaigns.
